What should you wear for your business portrait?

With over thirty years of shooting portrait photography, I thought it would be great to share some tips with you all. I’m always asked for recommendations on what to wear for a business portrait session and there are some definite do’s and don’ts.

Stay away from busy patterns and try to wear natural tones. Don’t wear tones that are too close in color to your own skin tone. Ask your photographer if you can have two versions of your portrait, tie and no tie. Don’t forget to shave before your portrait and ladies… if you have the time and budget, I recommend having your hair and makeup done.

Other questions asked that are not addressed in the video are: should I have my business session shot in a studio or in an environmental setting? Should I have a full body portrait shot or just a headshot? Can I wear multiple outfits?

These all depends on how the photo(s) will be used and the type of business that you are in. There are no right or wrong answers here, it’s just a matter of working out the details with your photographer to allow more time if needed.
